The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
