Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the group reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to form the Seekers and Planners tables.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
